Variety Caring for Kids

Variety helps to improve the lives of children with special medical needs. To reach their full potential many of these children need Variety’s assistance with prevention and treatment, or simply with easing the challenges of living with ongoing medical problems, including hearing and communication difficulties.

Variety provides insulin pumps which free diabetic children from daily insulin injections, brainstem response machines for hospitals so that premature babies have access to hearing screening at the earliest possible age, and in the past has established Mobile Ear Clinics providing early diagnosis and treatment of childhood ear infections.

Most adults can't imagine having to inject themselves, but before 9-year-old Edward from Dunedin received his insulin pump from Variety - The Children's Charity, he had to give himself up to eight injections a day.

Emman Rahimi is a talented soccer player, swimmer, actor and singer who applies himself to everything he sets out to do with enthusiasm. Variety has helped Emman achieve his goals over the past couple of years under the Future Kiwi Kids programme.

Most 10-year-olds take riding their bike for granted. Kylie, who cannot ride an ordinary two-wheel bike, is now able to join in the fun with friends and family on her specialised trike, thanks to help from Variety.
