Throughout the country, Variety – The Children’s Charity is helping Kiwi
kids strive for their dreams with Variety Gold Heart Scholarships.
22 talented Kiwi kids with dreams in fields as varied as table tennis,
gymnastics and veterinary science have been selected as recipients of the 2010
Variety Gold Heart Scholarship, now in its fourth year.
“We have roller-skaters, swimmers, wheelchair rugby players, academics
and artists – their determination and ability is an inspiration to us all,” said
Lorraine Taylor, CEO of Variety – The Children’s Charity. ![Lorraine Taylor WS[1]](/site/images/79996.jpg)
The scholarship provides the recipients with financial support of up to
$5,000 and matches them with a mentor to help them achieve their life goals in
music, the arts, education or sport.
“The mentor relationship is a unique aspect of the scholarship programme
and is designed to encourage and support them throughout the year.
The Variety Gold Heart Scholarship Programme makes available a maximum of
$5,000 per annum for up to three years to help children with
special needs fulfill their dreams. This could include assisting with
tuition fees, personal development, coaching, and the purchase of training
equipment, travel or accommodation.
“Over the past four years, Variety has funded 72
scholarships and we are aware that there are many more Kiwi children who are
deserving of a Variety Gold Heart Scholarship,” concluded Taylor.
Applications for 2011 Scholarships will open towards the end
of 2010.
For the third year, CMC Markets will fund six scholarships and Ansvar
Insurance is funding one scholarship for the second
year.
Thank you also to SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust (two
