Applications for 2009 Scholarships open on 2 February 2009 and close at 5pm
on Friday 3 Arpil 2009.
Variety CEO Lorraine Taylor was delighted with the
response to this very important programme. 'The number of applications we receive shows just how beneficial this
scholarship is to New Zealand children with special needs.'
Applications were came from
all over the country - from children facing a wide range of physical,
intellectual, emotional and circumstantial challenges. All had one thing in
common - a dream. 'It's amazing to see how much some children have achieved
in the face of adversity, and inspiring to see their determination to reach
their goals - to be the best they possibly can be,' said Lorraine.
'For Variety, one of the
big things to come out of the application process this year,' she said, 'is
just how much need there is out there. Obviously, the more funds we raise, the
more scholarships we can offer and you can rest assured we're going to be
working as hard as we can to ensure the Variety Gold Heart Scholarship reaches
as many Kiwi kids as possible. A special thank you to CMC Markets which funded 6
educational scholarships
The Variety Gold Heart Scholarship is dedicated to
fostering the talents of New Zealand children with special needs and to help
them achieve their life goals in music, the arts, education or sport.
The fund makes available a
maximum of $5,000 per annum for up to 3 years to help children with special needs fulfill their
dreams. This could include assisting with tuition fees, personal development,
coaching, the purchase of training equipment, travel or accommodation. Leading
professionals and celebrities will mentor successful applicants in their chosen
pursuits.
Applications are reviewed by the Variety Grants
Committee and scholarships granted to applicants who can
demonstrate their passion and commitment to a long term life or
career aspiration. Applicants need to be eligible under Variety's 'special
needs' criteria, being sick, disabled or disadvantaged in some way and be under
the age of 18 years.
