Experience the trip of a lifetime and help create brighter futures for Kiwi kids.
Calling all adventure travellers! Variety - The Children's Charity and World Expeditions have teamed up to bring you the Variety Great Wall of China Challenge, hosted by well-known Kiwi actress Robyn Malcolm. Challenge yourself to trek to remote areas of China, while raising funds for Variety - The Children's Charity. Your entry includes a donation of $500 to Variety, and we'd like to encourage you to raise additional funds through sponsorships, donations from friends and family or other creative fundraising ideas. You'll get the satisfaction of knowing that you've stretched yourself and accomplished this moderate physical challenge as well as helped Kiwi kids to reach their full potential.
Take a trek along the Great Wall, camp near villages and explore Beijing's cultural sites.
This two week trekking and adventure travel trip will take you outside Beijing and to Shanxi Province and Inner Mongolia. You will meet people who infrequently, sometimes never, see Westerners. On your journey you will see ancient ways: mule carts, threshing of crops with stone rollers, hand-winnowing and long-lost agricultural techniques. You'll be amazed at the history as you trace an ancient link in 14th century forts, villages and the massive omnipresent Great Wall. This is "real-life China", remote from major towns and changed for decades.
The trip will combine this cultural and historical experience with visits to the country's most impressive national monuments, such as the Imperial Palace "Forbidden City" in Beijing. There is also the opportunity to extend your time in China and visit such great sites as the Terracotta Warriors in Xian or have a stopover on the way home in Shanghai - the Paris of the East.

About our previous trip - Vietnam for Variety
A group of 17 cyclists, including well-known Kiwi actress Antonia Prebble, set off in March on a cycle trek around Vietnam raising money for mobility equipment and bikes for children affected by the Christchurch earthquake.
Over 12 days the team cycled 387 km, pedalling through tranquil highlands, palm fringed beaches and country roads as well as taking in the highlights of Hanoi, Dalat and the bustling, cosmopolitan Ho Chi Minh City. During the trek, the cyclists visited schools and orphanages along the way, getting to know some of the local children.
Each cyclist raised money for Variety by getting sponsorship and donations, holding events and selling goodies. Together the team raised a phenomenal $28,830 for Bikes for Kids - almost three times more than the goal of $10,000!
A word from Antonia Prebble...
"Hand on heart, this was one of the best trips I have ever been on. Vietnam is an extraordinary country; the people, the scenery and, of course the food, are all fantastic, and when you experience it all by bike, you are able to connect to the environment in a way that you never could by hopping on and off a bus. I was expecting this trip to be amazing and it just blew my mind, and it was all for such a worthy cause."
