What Sort of Vehicle Can I Use?
Bashers drive an eclectic range of vehicles (preferably pre-1970), many of which have been specially customised to reflect their team's personality.
Generally speaking it is preferable that the vehicle is 30 years old at the start of the Bash. However there may be some exceptions to this, as long as the vehicle fits within the parameters of a Bash ‘concept’ vehicle. The final decision regarding this will be at the Bash Director's discretion.
Even if you don't have access to a vehicle you may still be able to join in the fun as 'crew' plus there are often ex-Bash vehicles available for sale. If you have a Bash vehicle for sale, or would like to purchase an ex-Bash vehicle, please contact jodi@variety.org.nz
Unlike the main Variety Bash, any type or age of vehicle can participate in the Variety Mini Bash (as long as it’s roadworthy and legal). Anything from corporate fleet cars to the family sedan will do!
How Many Crew Can I Take?
This depends on the size of your vehicle. The minimum number of crew is two.
Is There an Age Limit?
You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the Bash.
Is the Route and Destination the Same Each Year?
No, the route and destination change each year. The Variety Bash aims to visit as many New Zealand children and cover as much of the country as possible each year.
Typically the Variety Bash will cover four years within the North Island and two years in the South Island which means the general rotation through any one particular area could be approximately six years.
The Variety Bash traditionally visits the more remote parts of the New Zealand countryside so transiting along or through unsealed roads is not only commonplace, it is in fact encouraged!
What About Safety?
Safety is the primary focus of Variety and the Bash Officials. All vehicles are tracked during the day by officials who are in contact via CB radios and broadband communication. The Variety Bash has its own team of paramedics and is in contact with local authorities along the route.
What About Accommodation on the Variety Bash?
Accommodation is the responsibility of each Bash Team/Entrant. Bashers must book their own accommodation, however a list of accommodation options is provided by Variety.
What About Meals?
Variety organises all catering for the duration of the Variety Bash. You will receive three meals a day as well as entry to the Launch and Final night functions. A cash bar operates each night for Bashers to purchase their own drinks.

Once you register, you will receive regular Bash Bulletins as well as a Bash Pack closer to the start of the Bash. |
