At Variety we want Kiwi kids to have more than just the basics. We want them to have the same opportunities to develop self-confidence, resilience and life skills, all while having fun, so together with Sport NZ we created Active Me – Kia Tū.
Through Active Me – Kia Tū, children and young people on the Kiwi Kid Sponsorship programme in Auckland and Northland can access up to $300 a year for two years to help them get active and moving.
Active Me can be used to pay for your child to participate in sports, after-school clubs or groups, or equipment so that they can play with their friends and whānau.
Get active together as a whānau. Kids love it when the family is involved. Parents, and whānau play an important role in nurturing their child’s love of physical activity.
Being physically active helps kids to be better learners – they engage in class work more, stay in school longer, and achieve better at school – both in and out of the classroom.
It’s not just about physical health, being active is good for you and your kids mental, social, and spiritual health too. It helps kids to control their feelings and emotions too.
Find out what is most important to your child when they are being active. Is it having fun, learning new skills, or making friends? Find an activity that meets their needs.
