Eliza had a tough start to life, causing her to struggle socially, emotionally and cognitively. At ten years old, she still had the coping skills of a toddler and could only manage one hour of school per day.
The family’s social worker has recommended intense musical therapy to help her develop language and communication skills, encourage self-expression, and build self-confidence.
Funded by Variety, the therapy is helping Eliza come out of her shell, make new friends and enjoy school for more hours each day.
Her mum says, “The help from Variety has meant Eliza is able to join in and enjoy school camp that otherwise would be a struggle. She has been able to build friendships which is a big deal for her. She is so much happier!”
In 2020, Variety provided assistance to 148 Kiwi kids requiring therapeutic care or funding for extra-curricular opportunities. For young Eliza, the support from Variety is profoundly changing her life.
Individual grants like these are funded through our monthly giving programme, Hero for Kids, where for as little as $10 per month, you can help to ensure that more children will have access to the same opportunities as other kids, a happier, healthier childhood and the foundation for a brighter future.
