The work we do at Variety – the Children’s Charity, without a doubt, would be impossible without the generous support, guidance and assistance provided by key partners, sponsors and individuals.
This is why we were so thrilled to present two of our most valued supporters with prestigious awards at Friday night’s SKYCITY Variety of Chefs black-tie fundraiser, says Variety’s chief executive officer Lorraine Taylor.
Recognising the significant contribution SKYCITY and its team has made over many years, Variety presented SKYCITY with the 2018 Variety International Corporate Award.
Variety also honoured Nic Watt, the very man who made the event possible, with the 2018 Variety International Presidential Citation.
The corporate award is presented to companies that show outstanding commitment to Variety and those, like SKYCITY, who have over many years assisted us to achieve our mission of improving the lives of disadvantaged Kiwi kids, says Taylor.
The presidential citation is presented to individuals, like Nic, who have made a selfless contribution to Variety and the work we do, Taylor adds.
SKYCITY has been a principal corporate partner of Variety New Zealand since 2005 and over this time has provided close to $3.6 million in fundraising, grants and in-kind sponsorship to Variety.
Taylor says this comprehensive support includes hosting bingo each and every week in both Auckland and Hamilton, being a principal sponsor of SKYCITY Variety of Chefs since its inception in 2013, providing prizes for our Scratch ‘n’ Win campaign and hosting numerous other fundraising events, in addition to grants provided by the SKYCITY Community Trust for our community programmes.
Each Christmas SKYCITY collects gifts for our children and for the past two years has invited one of our kids to light the Sky Tower Christmas lights – offering up a very special once in a lifetime experience.
Meanwhile, Nic has played an instrumental role as lead chef in the SKYCITY Variety of Chefs event since its launch and is extremely passionate about its success.
Each year he encourages his industry peers to get involved in designing exceptional menus and experiences for us to enjoy.
Every year he also invites the event chefs to join him at a local school to cook with the kids.
“Nic’s involvement and dedication to this event has been integral to its success and we are so grateful for his generous support,” says Taylor.
